TAMPA — West Tampa Elementary School was put on lockdown Tuesday morning as police searched the area for three men who robbed a cafe at gunpoint.
The men are still at large.
At about 11 a.m. three men entered the Miramar Cafe, at 2301 N Armenia Ave., pointed a gun at the cashier and demanded cash, police said. Once they collected the money, they ran. One customer was in the store at the time of the robbery. No one was hurt.
West Tampa Elementary, just a couple of blocks from the crime scene, was locked down as a canine team, helicopter unit and uniformed officers scoured the area. The school was reopened shortly after noon.
