ST. PETERSBURG — Police need the public's help finding a woman they say violently attacked a 69-year-old woman earlier this month.

The suspect approached the 69-year-old woman in a Lowe's parking lot on Sept. 9 and asked if she would buy her gas in exchange for help loading her car with hurricane supplies, according to St. Petersburg police. That was the day before Hurricane Irma made landfall in Florida.

Then, the suspect and another person followed the victim home, to the 4100 block of 10th Avenue N, police said, where the suspect repeatedly struck the elderly woman and stole her purse.

The suspects' car can be seen on a surveillance camera leaving the area.

Surveillance video also captured the suspect inside the Marathon gas station on 34th Street N, minutes after the attack occurred, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call (727) 893-7780.
