ST. PETERSBURG — Police on Wednesday arrested a man they said tried to burglarize the same home from which he had stolen 20 guns days before.
Detectives called Lupen Jerusho River Font, 35, a serial burglar.
Font was taken into custody after he tried to break into a home on the 8000 block of Riverside Drive N in north St. Petersburg around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, police said. A resident saw Font trying to get in and fired a gun toward him, hitting Font's vehicle several times, detectives said. Officers later found Font near 94th Avenue N and 4th Street.
Detectives believe Font broke into the same house on Oct. 1, getting away with the guns and other items. They were able to recover six of the guns and other stolen property, they said.
After his arrest, Font agreed to identify for investigators more than a dozen other homes in St. Petersburg, Gulfport and Tampa he may have burglarized, according to St. Petersburg police.
Font faces 18 total charges, including 13 burglary-related counts. He was being held without bail Thursday in the Pinellas County jail.
