Police: Skateboard-wielding youth attacked man on Clearwater pier

Times staff

CLEARWATER — A man who tried to break up a fight between two women on Pier 60 around 3 a.m. Monday was attacked by a young man wielding a wooden skateboard, police said.

Antonio Marquist Howard, 19, struck the unidentified man in the face with the plank, knocking out some of his teeth and possibly breaking his jaw, Clearwater police said. He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. Howard was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated battery, according to a police report.

It was unclear Monday if Howard knew the brawling women.

Howard, who fled the pier after the fight, told officers the man was "swinging a knife at him," police said.

Howard, who told police he works at Clearwater clothing store Troubles Co., remained in the Pinellas County Jail on Monday with bail set at $10,000.
