Police: St. Pete woman left crack pipe within child's reach

A St. Petersburg woman was arrested Monday afternoon on charges she left a crack pipe and syringe within reach of her 6-year--old child.

Police said Amber Irene Rodriguez, 29, left a plastic tube used to smoke crack cocaine in an ashtray next to the bed where she and her child slept. An arrest affidavit states police also found a syringe outside Rodriguez's apartment home.

Rodriguez was arrested about 2 p.m. Monday and charged with neglect of a child, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, where she remained Tuesday in lieu of $7,150 bail.

  5. Florida GDP growth in first quarter 2017 ranks 21st among states, still outpacing U.S.

    Florida's gross domestic product or GDP rose 1.4 percent in the first quarter, slightly faster than the nation's growth of 1.2 percent and placing Florida 21st among the states for growth rates, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
