Police: Woman broke officer's middle finger during struggle

ST. PETERSBURG — A woman broke a police officer's middle finger when she kicked him in the hand Monday morning as he tried to arrest her, according to police.

Desiree McAleenan was upset when officers arrested her boyfriend, Bobby Webb Attwood, 23, after he allegedly hit her during an argument in the parking lot of CVS Pharmacy at 5400 4th Street N, police said. McAleenan, 20, stood near a police car, screaming and cursing at officers, before an officer told her that she was going to be arrested, too.

She fled and officers gave chase. When they caught up with her, a struggle ensued. McAleenan hit Officer Duong J. Tran in the face with her purse before breaking his finger, according to an arrest report.

She was later taken to jail, where she was held on $10,400 bail on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, resisting arrest without violence and an unrelated charge on petit theft.

Witnesses reported seeing Attwood and McAleenan arguing earlier in the morning, police said. Attwood was seen grabbing McAleenan, who is three months pregnant, by the hair and pushing her to the ground, police said.

Attwood was booked in jail on a charge of aggravated battery on a pregnant female and held on $20,000 bail.
