Police: Woman slashes truck's tire in road rage incident

CLEARWATER — A Tuesday morning traffic accident so enraged a Clearwater woman that she got out of her car and slashed a truck's tires, according to police.

Clearwater police said they quickly caught up with Theresa Rubalcava, 52, after she fled the scene of the accident in her 2000 Chevy Astro van. She faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, criminal mischief and unrelated drug charges.

It all began about 9:40 a.m. when Angelo Yasparro, 42, drove his 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup west on Court Street into the left-turn lane just west of Osceola Avenue, authorities said. Yasparro suddenly decided to change lanes and continue west toward Clearwater Beach. That's when Rubalcava's van collided with his truck, police said.

Rubalcava got out of the van, pulled a knife from her pocket and walked to the driver's side of the truck where she slashed the front tire, police said. She then got back in her van and drove to Clearwater Marine Aquarium, where she was arrested.

Police issued citations to Yasparro for an expired license tag and improper lane change, authorities said.
