Man accused of striking 3-year-old

A man on probation for battery was arrested Monday on charges of slapping a 3-year-old child to the ground.

Edward Felipe Vasquez, 22, told police he twice caught the child coloring on her bedroom walls, and the second time he struck her, according to a Port Richey Police Department report. The child had a bruise on her face, the report said.

The incident happened about 10 a.m. Saturday and was reported to the child abuse hotline. Police investigated the complaint on Monday.

Vasquez was charged with child abuse and violation of probation on his previous battery charge. He remained Tuesday at the Land O'Lakes jail without bail.
