Report: St. Petersburg man beat, raped, burned his child's mother

ST. PETERSBURG — A 20-year-old St. Petersburg man beat, raped and burned the mother of his child, authorities said.

According to an arrest affidavit, Sebastian A. Howard forced his ex-girlfriend to remove her clothes and repeatedly struck her with a belt. He burned her with the ashes of a cigarette and left permanent scars. He refused to let her leave his bedroom and raped her.

The St. Petersburg Times is not naming the woman because of the nature of the crime.

St. Petersburg Police arrested Howard and charged him with aggravated domestic battery, false imprisonment, sexual battery and possession of marijuana. Police found 1.6 grams in his left pocket, according to the affidavit. The latter charge is a violation of his probation for possession of cocaine.

Howard is being held at the Pinellas County Jail without bail.
