Man with crowbar arrested near Brandon school

BRANDON — A 26-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after a school resource deputy saw him at Burns Middle School with a crowbar tucked beneath his shirt, deputies say.

Deputy Robert Bradley spotted 26-year-old Andrew James Mitchell on the Brandon school's grounds at about 1:30 p.m., according to an arrest affidavit.

When the deputy approached Mitchell, he walked across the street, pulled the crowbar out and started threatening Bradley as he walked back toward the deputy, according to an arrest affidavit.

The deputy pulled his gun, and the man ran. Mitchell was soon arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and trespassing on school property.

He remained in jail Wednesday in lieu of $7,750 bail.
