LARGO — City officials announced Wednesday that the reward money for their missing owl, JR, has been upped to $400.
JR, the great horned owl who has been a fixture at George C. McGough Nature Park for more than a decade, was discovered missing on Saturday morning. A large hole had been cut out of his metal enclosure, and park officials said they believe someone tried to steal him or set him free.
The reward money is being offered for information that leads to the return of JR or the arrest of the person who released him.
The reward, which is being funded by the city and private donations, grew from the original offer Tuesday of $250.
Park officials say JR fell from his nest as a chick and is unable to survive in the wild.
