RIVERVIEW — A young girl got an unusual punishment this week, landing her father in jail.

First he beat her with a belt and then he shaved off her hair, according to a Hillsborough County arrest report.

Deputies say 34-year-old Jose Alfredo Ajpacaja-Ajiataz of 11314 Brussels Boy Lane was angry with his daughter because he said she took jewelry from Wal-Mart without paying for it and used a Game Boy without permission.

Her punishment began Friday, when deputies say Ajpacaja-Ajiataz hit the girl's arms and legs with a belt, leaving bruises five days later. The next day he shaved off her hair.

The Sheriff's Office said the girl is younger than 12. Her mother and at least one other child also live at the home. It's not clear if they were home at the time.

The report states that Ajpacaja-Ajiataz admitted to the shaving but denied hitting her. He didn't offer any explanation other than that it was a disciplinary action, a Sheriff's Office spokesman said.

Ajpacaja-Ajiataz was arrested on Wednesday night on charges of physical and mental child abuse. He was released from the Hillsborough County Jail Wednesday on his own recognizance.
