TAMPA — Police captured one suspect and were searching for another after an armed robbery Tuesday morning at a Family Dollar store in Seminole Heights.

Authorities said they arrived at the scene, 5100 N Florida Ave., and spotted one of the men running away. They said they caught him after a foot chase.

Kenyua H. Jackson, 23 of Tampa, was being held without bail at the Hillsborough County Jail on a felony armed robbery charge. Records show he served two stints in state prison for robbery and burglary.

Investigators said they were looking for a second suspect who slipped through the perimeter they had set up around the scene. As a precaution, nearby Hillsborough High School and Memorial Middle School were briefly placed on lockdown after the robbery, according to police.

In July 2013 at another Family Dollar about 2 miles to the east, a manager was shot, and later died, while trying to thwart an armed robber. The victim, Horsley Shorter Jr., 49, had run out of his office to defend a clerk from the robber when he was shot.

After a six-day manhunt for the killer, authorities arrested Demetrius Parks, 24 of Tampa, at an Orlando bus station. Being held without bail at the Hillsborough County Jail, he is awaiting trial.
