Safety Harbor sex offender accused of molesting girl

A registered sex offender who lives in Safety Harbor has been charged with sexual battery of a child under 12 years old, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

John Richard Polgar Jr., 54, was arrested Wednesday afternoon, accused of molesting a girl he knew at a private Safety Harbor residence in June 2011, deputies said. He remained in the Pinellas County Jail Thursday with bail set at $100,000.

Sheriff's deputies said the victim told an adult about the sexual assault in March. An investigation suggested Polgar had molested the girl once, deputies said. Polgar denied the allegations.

State records show Polgar was convicted in 1995 of sexual battery on a child younger than 12 in Volusia County. He has been arrested twice in Pinellas County on misdemeanor charges.
