Search is on for man who pointed gun at a FHP trooper in Brooksville

BROOKSVILLE — Authorities are searching for a man who pointed a firearm at a state trooper and fled during a traffic stop.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a trooper Tuesday attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a man on a 1982 Honda motorcycle at the intersection of Barnett Road and Fenwick Drive. The trooper initiated the stop because the dirt bike didn't have a license plate, according to a news release.

The man didn't stop and continued into nearby woods, pointing his weapon at the trooper.

According to FHP, the bike's front tire soon hit a piece of wood in some high grass and the rider was thrown off the bike. The motorcyclist continued running until the trooper lost sight of him in the woods.

Troopers described the man as white, about 5-foot-9, wearing khaki shorts and a plaid shirt. He's considered armed and dangerous.

FHP, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office and Brooksville Police Department are assisting in the search.
