RUSKIN — A Ruskin man is facing a murder charge after he admitted giving a ride to a man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend and killing her current boyfriend, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.
Eric W. Bazemore, 36, told deputies he knew William Privett intended to shoot Eric Brewer and Shirley Sexton on Sunday at 908 21st St., a sheriff's spokesman said.
The Sheriff's Office gave this account of the incident: The couple was sitting in a Chevrolet Blazer on Sunday morning when Privett pulled up in a truck. Privett hopped out and shot Brewer and Sexton before getting back into the passenger side and leaving.
Bazemore told detectives in an interview Thursday that Privett told him that he would shoot his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend if he ever got the chance. Bazemore also knew that was where they were headed when he drove the vehicle Sunday, sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said.
Privett, 52, surrendered to deputies through his lawyer Sunday, and detectives later found his vehicle with Bazemore, Callaway said.
Brewer, 28, and Sexton, 27, were taken to Tampa General Hospital, where Brewer died, the Sheriff's Office said.
Both men are charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and shooting at, within, or into a vehicle.
