Seeking a wanted person, Hernando authorities find meth lab

Deputies find meth lab in search for person

Searching for a wanted person, Hernando County sheriff's deputies discovered something quite different Monday.

Authorities found a methamphetamine lab at 1201 Trellis Ave., the Sheriff's Office reported Tuesday.

Darwin Duranko, 45, and Dawn Palombo, 45, both of Spring Hill were arrested and charged with manufacturing and trafficking methamphetamine.

Deputies saw parts of the lab and obtained a search warrant as they were looking for the wanted person — neither Duranko nor Palombo. Detectives from the sheriff's vice and narcotics unit, along with Hernando County Fire Rescue and hazardous materials personnel, helped remove an active "one pot" meth lab and two used "one pot" vessels. A total of 35.1 grams of liquid meth was found, the Sheriff's Office said.

Duranko was being held at the Hernando County Detention Center on Wednesday in lieu of $130,500 bail; Palombo remained in custody with bail set at $120,500.
