TAMPA — Six people were arrested on 66 counts each of credit card fraud after deputies said they used stolen credit card numbers to rack up more than $13,000 at a Tampa Walmart.
Jose Rodriguez-Ferro, 28; Lazaro Fernandez-Iglesias, 30; Jose Valdez-Suarez, 27; Noelvis Carbonell Ordonez, 28; Ariel Salenetorres, 28; and Elizabeth Robaina, 20; were arrested Tuesday afternoon and taken to the Hillsborough County Jail.
According to an arrest affidavit, 22 credit card charges were made Monday and 44 Tuesday in gift card purchases at the Walmart at 8220 N Dale Mabry Highway.
The investigation began when several people complained about being billed for Walmart purchases they didn't make, said Hillsborough sheriff's pokeswoman Debbie Carter.
The link among all the transactions was the same cashier, Elizabeth Robaina, who was paid to participate, said Carter.
It's unclear how the card numbers were copied, Carter said.
Detectives recovered more stolen credit cards and gift cards during the investigation, and Carter said the total expected loss to the several victims will likely exceed $200,000. The Tampa office of the U.S. Secret Service is also investigating.
Besides the fraudulent use of credit card charges, the six face charges of racketeering and third degree grand theft. Rodriguez-Ferro and Fernandez-Iglesias have no bail. Ordonez, Valdez-Suarez and Robaina's bails were set at $149,000, and Salentorres' was set at $105,000, jail records show.
