Sleeping girl, 12, hit in drive-by shooting

A 12-year-old girl was shot in her sleep early Thursday morning when bullets from an apparent drive-by shooting whizzed through her bedroom wall.

McKenzie Creech, a student at Marshall Middle School, was shot in both calves and airlifted to Tampa General Hospital. She was expected to survive, Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies said.

McKenzie was asleep in the front bedroom of her family's home on Joe McIntosh Road in Plant City at 3:29 a.m. when multiple gunshots rang out, deputies said.

Elsewhere in the home were her parents, Michael and Angela Creech, and an older brother, 15-year-old Dylan Creech. No one else was injured.

No further information was immediately available.
