SPRING HILL — A 23-year-old man told Hernando County investigators that he "lost it'' when his 3-month-old son wouldn't stop crying, so he hit him in the head at least four times, according to an arrest report.

The infant later was taken to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg and is in serious condition, according to the report.

Michael Mihok at first told deputies that he fell asleep on his couch Wednesday with the baby in his arms, and that the baby then fell out of his arms and onto the home's carpeted living room floor.

Dr. Sally Smith, the medical director for the Child Protection Team in Pinellas County, told investigators that the injuries are not consistent with Mihok's version of events.

In a second interview on Friday, Mihok admitted that he threw the baby into a crib when he kept crying. He said he then punched the baby in the back of the head approximately four times.

Mihok was arrested on a charge of attempted felony murder and was being held Friday in the Hernando County Jail.
