SPRING HILL

Report: Man put gun to ADT salesman's head

A man upset that a security alarm salesman had approached him put a BB gun against the salesman's head and forced him off of his property, according to an arrest report.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office gave this report: The salesman for ADT security approached the home of William Hanley Jr. on Rhanbuoy Road on Wednesday evening wearing a company shirt, wearing an ID tag and carrying an octagonal ADT sign.

Hanley picked up a black BB gun, which resembled a real firearm, put the barrel against the victim's head and walked the man back down the driveway, repeatedly yelling, "You're going to get shot over selling this stuff."

Hanley, 50, told deputies that he does not like solicitors.

He also told deputies that he drank four or five beers before the salesman arrived, the report says, and had "an odor consistent with an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person.''

Hanley was arrest on a charge of aggravated assault and taken to the Hernando County Jail.
