Spring Hill man barricades himself in home after deputies try to serve warrant

SPRING HILL — An armed 41-year-old man barricaded himself inside a home Wednesday afternoon in the Berkeley Manor subdivision after deputies attempted to serve him with a felony warrant, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said that as deputies tried to serve the man, who was not identified, at about 2:25 p.m., he came out of the residence and confronted deputies with a handgun.

Deputies then took up tactical positions and requested backup. The man retreated back into the home, where he remained Wednesday evening.

Both the Sheriff's Office crisis response and SWAT teams were on scene as negotiators attempted to speak with the man.

Neighbors in the immediate vicinity were asked to either leave their homes or remain inside.

No other information, including details about the nature of the warrant, was immediately available.
