Spring Hill man accused of striking family member with SUV

SPRING HILL — A man has been charged with aggravated battery with great bodily harm after striking a family member with an SUV during a fight, authorities say. About 5:30 p.m. Friday, deputies arrived at 2079 Fentress Court in Spring Hill. According to a report, Phillip Atkins, 28, and Randall Nelson, 49, had been in a dispute. Though it's unclear how or why, Atkins got into a 1997 Ford Expedition and rammed Nelson, investigators say. Nelson was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is investigating. Atkins is being held on $100,000 bail. In 2010, he was found guilty of battery and served time in jail.
