SPRING HILL — A 13-year-old boy has been arrested on a felony charge after authorities say he fired a BB gun and shattered the window of a passing school bus filled with children.

The boy and his friends were in a retention pond shooting at bugs and a bucket near the intersection of Pinehurst Drive and Cobblestone Road on Tuesday when a Challenger K-8 bus drove by, a Hernando County Sheriff's Office report said. The broken glass struck two students, the report stated.

The boy's friends, the report said, saw him shoot the window. Authorities said he initially told them he didn't do it but later admitted to the shooting.

The report said he was charged with shooting/throwing a deadly missile into an occupied conveyance and later released to his parents on home detention.
