Spring Hill woman charged with theft from grandmother

SPRING HILL — Anna Antolak warned her granddaughter, authorities say: Steal again and I will call the police.

Reed, 37, of Spring Hill, didn't heed the warning and was arrested Monday on a charge of organized fraud, the Hernando Sheriff's Office said. Investigators say Reed stole $18,500 from Antolak's bank account by cashing 23 fraudulent checks between Aug. 5 and Monday, all at the same location in Spring Hill.

Detectives say Reed admitted to the making the fraudulent transactions so she could pay her and her boyfriend's bills. Antolak told investigators that her granddaughter had committed similar offenses in the past, prompting the warning from Antolak.

Reed remained in the Hernando County Detention Center on Tuesday evening in lieu of $1,000 bail.
