St. Petersburg man accused of meeting Hillsborough teen for sex

RECOMMENDED READING

Police arrested a St. Petersburg man they said had sex with a 16-year-old girl who lives in Hillsborough County. Blas Rodriguez-Ales, 35, and the girl had consensual sex once in December and twice in January, police spokesman Bill Proffitt said.

"He picked her up from school and took her to a motel in Pinellas County," Proffitt said. "He admitted to knowing her age."

The girl recently told her parents what happened because she had a health concern, police said.

Rodriguez-Ales was arrested Tuesday afternoon on multiple charges of having unlawful sex with a minor and traveling to meet a minor for sex. Rodriguez-Ales does not have any previous arrests in Florida, records show.

He remained in the Pinellas County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $120,000 bail.
