St. Pete man accused of raping blind woman

ST. PETERSBURG — Authorities have arrested a 55-year-old sex offender they said raped a blind woman whose bedroom he broke into this spring.

According to an arrest affidavit, DNA linked Jon Leslie Williams, of St. Petersburg, to the April 4 attack.

Police said Williams broke into the woman's locked room as she slept and assaulted her. He and the victim were acquaintances, police said. The woman, who is 47, told detectives Williams put his hands over her mouth to keep her from screaming.

Shortly afterward, the victim called police and accused Williams of the attack. But she could not say for certainty who the man was, police said, because she is blind.

When questioned, Williams, who also uses the name Todd Hurt, denied having sex with the woman. Authorities arrested him that day on a charge of giving a false name and failing to register as a sex offender. They discovered he was designated a sex offender in Michigan.

On Thursday, they arrested him again after getting the DNA results. He now faces a charge of sexual battery. He was in the Pinellas County Jail without bail Friday.
