St. Pete man charged with sending sexual texts to girl

ST. PETERSBURG — A 24-year-old St. Petersburg man was arrested Wednesday after investigators found that he sent a picture of his genitals and sexually explicit messages to a 15-year-old girl's cellphone, officials said.

The girl's grandmother contacted the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office in December after the girl showed her the messages.

In the texts, a man who identified himself as "Jeffrey" told the girl he was a leader in a church group that she had participated in a few years ago, authorities said. Along with the photo, the man sent text messages asking the girl for sex in exchange for money. The girl said she didn't know the man, officials said.

An investigation identified Jeffrey William LaChance as the man who sent the messages, officials said.

LaChance was booked in the Pinellas County Jail on charges of transmission of material harmful to minors and prohibited use of a computer or electronic device. He was held on $15,000 bail.
