St. Pete police looking for boy who robbed woman of purse at gunpoint

ST. PETERSBURG — Police were searching Wednesday for a boy who robbed a woman of her purse at gunpoint Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred about 5:05 p.m. Tuesday in an alley behind 4514 Central Ave. A teen walked up to the woman and asked for a dollar. After she declined, he pulled a handgun from his pocket and grabbed her purse. She tried to hold onto it, but let go when she felt something hit her in the head, police said.

The robber ran away.

Police described him as black and 15 to 17 years old. He stood 5 foot 11 and weighed about 130 pounds. He was described as having a "baby face" with short hair that he wore under a "stocking style black beanie." He wore black shorts, blue striped boxers, dark sneakers and white socks; he was not wearing a shirt.

Anyone with information about the robber can call St. Petersburg police at (727) 893-7780, text a tip to (727) 420-8911 or leave a confidential tip at (727) 892-5000.
