St. Pete police: Man kidnapped woman from bus stop, then raped her

A St. Petersburg man has been arrested on charges that he kidnapped a woman from bus stop, took her to his apartment, tied her up and raped her.

John Robert Leroux, 35, was arrested Wednesday on charges of sexual battery and kidnapping. He was being held at the Pinellas County Jail Thursday in lieu of $60,000.

The kidnapping occurred about 4 a.m. Wednesday at a bus stop on Fifth Avenue N, St. Petersburg police said. Leroux met the woman at the bus stop and they talked, but the woman walked off. Leroux grabbed her belt from behind, put his hand around her throat and threatened to kill her if she didn't cooperate, an arrest report states.

Police said Leroux, who lives at 865 Fifth Ave. N, forced the woman into his apartment, where he tied her up and raped her.
