ST. PETERSBURG — A St. Petersburg father was arrested Thursday on a first-degree murder charge in his 7-month-old son's death earlier this summer, police said.

Michael David Guadalupe, 27, was taking care of his son at home on June 29 while the boy's mother went to work, St. Petersburg police said. Guadalupe said his son, Angelo Guadalupe, was fed and put in his crib after getting fussy. Later, though, he noticed Angelo was unresponsive, and he called 911.

Detectives got involved. They found Angelo had "extensive internal injuries which were inconsistent with the father's initial description of what occurred."

After surgery, Angelo was taken off life support July 7. He was 52 days old.

The baby's cause of death was blunt head trauma, the Medical Examiner ruled, classifying his death as a homicide.

Detectives tried to interview Guadalupe again, but said he would not speak to them.

Police said the child's mother is not a suspect.

Guadalupe was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder on Thursday and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
