St. Petersburg man accused of claiming nearly $4,000 in false VA benefits

SEMINOLE — Authorities arrested a man they said fraudulently received nearly $4,000 in benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Christopher Anthony Miller, 50, of St. Petersburg, has been charged with grand theft.

Miller filed false travel reimbursement forms to the VA between December 2009 and July 2012, according to an arrest affidavit.

He claimed he was traveled from Sarasota to the Bay Pines VA in Seminole, the report said. Each trip was 106 miles, he wrote.

In reality, authorities said, Miller lived in St. Petersburg and only drove 18 miles each time.

The VA is out $3,796.02, the affidavit said.
