St. Petersburg man accused of having sex with 15-year-old girl

ST. PETERSBURG — Police have arrested a 19-year-old man they say admitted to having sex with an underage girl this week.

Lee Thomas, of 2518 Fourth Avenue N, was taken into custody Thursday on charges of lewd and lascivious conduct and marijuana possession.

Early that morning, authorities found Thomas with a 15-year-old girl inside his bedroom, police said.

"She snuck out of the house and met him," said police spokesman Mike Puetz. "She was saying this was consensual."

The girl's relatives had gone looking for her after they realized she was gone, Puetz said. They found her with Thomas, who was a previous acquaintance.

Thomas denied knowing the girl's age, Puetz said, but she told investigators that he knew it.

Thomas also faces charges of violating his probation from a 2008 burglary and theft case. He remained in the Pinellas County Jail on Friday.
