St. Petersburg man accused of having sex with underage runaway

ST. PETERSBURG — Police arrested a 34-year-old man Tuesday, saying he had sex with an underage runaway.

Jarrett Clarke Buckley, 34, of 1835 Mississippi Ave. NE, was arrested on charges of sexual battery and unlawful sex with a minor. He is being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail.

The unidentified victim is a 17-year-old girl, police said.

Buckley met the girl, who was listed as a runaway, last week in Orlando, according to an arrest affidavit. The girl was walking down the road, and Buckley pulled over to say hello then brought the girl to his home in St. Petersburg.

The two engaged in sexual activity both inside and outside of Pinellas County, the affidavit says. Buckley admitted to consensual sex with the girl but denied forcing sex on her, police said.
