ST. PETERSBURG — Police have arrested a man they say was shooting up drugs as his baby sat next to him.
Authorities say that at about 11 p.m. Monday, someone spotted 24-year-old Bruce Edward Johnson sitting outside at 570 62nd Ave. N, near a church.
Johnson's toddler daughter was next to him in a stroller, police said.
"He had his arm tied, injecting something," said St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz. "Apparently he was taking the used needles and sticking them underneath the child."
When police arrived, they found syringes, drug paraphernalia and medicine Johnson said he stole from a dentist office, according to an arrest affidavit.
Johnson was arrested on charges of possession of drugs without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and child neglect. He remained in the Pinellas County jail on Tuesday in lieu of $5,400 bail.
