ST. PETERSBURG — A man who was caught on video swiping a Chihuahua puppy from a pet store has been arrested, St. Petersburg police reported.

Mark Anthony Clearman, 35, of St. Petersburg, who is unemployed, was arrested Saturday on a grand theft charge. The puppy was valued at $600.

A video from the Animal House pet shop, 950 34th Street N., shows a man reaching into a crate for the puppy and slipping it into a backpack on Feb. 26.

Clearman, who also was arrested in connection with a theft of a $300 kitchen mixer at a local Bealls, was being held at the Pinellas County Jail Monday in lieu of $10,000 bail.
