St. Petersburg police arrest mother on child abuse charges

ST. PETERSBURG — Police arrested a St. Petersburg woman on child abuse charges after they said she whipped her daughter with a belt as punishment.

Police arrested Natelia Keith Cochran, 36, on two counts of child abuse after the alleged incident Saturday.

The belt, which had a circular metal buckle, caused her daughter to limp and have trouble sitting down, according to an arrest affidavit. The girl sustained injuries on her left arm and legs, police said.

Cochran remained in the Pinellas County jail Monday in lieu of $20,000 bail.

No further information was available.
