St. Petersburg police investigating fatal shooting

ST. PETERSBURG — A man was shot and killed Thursday inside his Bartlett Park apartment, police said.

Officers were called about 2:30 p.m. to a shooting at Park Terrace apartments, at 674 22nd Ave. S, Inside Apt. No. 18, they found Jasper G. Williams, 32, with at least one gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said preliminary information indicated Williams had been in a dispute in the courtyard when shooting started. Williams was unharmed. But a short time later, one of the people he'd fought with returned, this time shooting and killing Williams inside the apartment.

Detectives are working to identify the shooter. Police did not release any other details about the incident Thursday.
