ST. PETERSBURG — Police on Tuesday arrested a teenager they say shot and killed another teen outside Johnny's Food Mart over the weekend.

Davonte Scott, 18, was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder. He was the second person arrested in the shooting. Scott was taken into custody at Bayside High School on Tuesday morning, according to St. Petersburg police.

The victim, 18-year-old Jerrod Evans, was killed Sunday evening outside the store at 1404 16th St. S, according to police. Police said Evans was killed by gunfire from a passing vehicle after an argument.

Police said they were unsure why the men were arguing. Evans was shot once in the upper body. Officers found him by a trash bin. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:21 p.m.

Police arrested Darzaughn Williams, 18, early Monday morning in connection with the killing. Police said Williams drove the car used in the shooting.

He faces a charge of being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder and was being held in the Pinellas County Jail on $100,000 bail. Scott was being held without bail.
