St. Petersburg police seek masked man who robbed Sweetbay at knifepoint

ST. PETERSBURG — Police are looking for a masked man who robbed a grocery store at knifepoint early Sunday.

Police said the man walked into the front office of Sweetbay at 955 62nd Ave. S, just after 7 a.m., carrying two large kitchen knifes with dark handles. He made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

He demanded cash, and employees filled up his bag with what they had, according to police spokesman Mike Puetz.

The man was described as 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 9, 140 to 170 pounds and in his teens to 30s. The man's face was covered with a white- or cream-colored cloth with holes cut out for the eyes and mouth.

He was wearing a baggy, light-colored blue hoodie, tan cargo shorts, black sneakers and cream-colored gloves.
