St. Petersburg police shoot, kill dog that charged at them

ST. PETERSBURG — A SWAT team member shot and killed a dog while serving a search warrant that resulted in multiple arrests Thursday evening, police said.

Officers arrived at 2951 Sixth Ave. S shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday to serve a search warrant at two apartments there, police said. A pit bull was chained up outside.

"As the officers started to approach the area, the dog broke the chain and charged," police spokesman Mike Puetz said.

Officer Courtney Parker, 32, who has been on the force for six years, shot the dog once, killing it.

It was unclear who it belonged to, Puetz said.

Police said they found two handguns and drugs including crack cocaine, marijuana and ecstasy inside. They arrested three people, identified as Laurika Perry, 33, Taurus Green, 37, and Jonathan Forman, 37, on various drug charges.
