St. Petersburg woman arrested after boyfriend dies of stab wound

ST. PETERSBURG — Police had been to the young couple's home 11 times this year. Neighbors called 911 when they heard screaming and yelling.

At about 1 p.m. Thursday, police again responded to 6412 Sixth Ave. N. Jillian Smith, 24, told officers her boyfriend of about a year had been stabbed.

The 32-year-old, whose name was not released by police, was pronounced dead less than an hour later at a local hospital. Late Thursday, authorities charged Smith with second-degree murder.

"Detectives have determined there's enough there to warrant those charges," said police spokesman Mike Puetz.

Details about the incident remain vague. It was unclear Thursday what led to the stabbing.

Puetz said officers have responded to several domestic disputes in the past several month, and that Smith alleged her boyfriend assaulted her three times. He was arrested two of those times.
