GULFPORT — A school bus crashed into a small pylon at Boca Ciega High School early Thursday, sending six students to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Pinellas County School District officials.

The students were taken to All Children's Hospital.

A total of 16 students were injured, said Andrea Zahn, spokeswoman for Pinellas County schools. Most were assessed by EMS responders and released.

"It doesn't appear to be serious," said Deputy Chief Mark Maddalena. "Bandages — that kind of stuff."

Zahn said the bus was going less than 5 miles per hour when it hit a concrete pylon at the school, located at 924 58th St. S.

The crash is under investigation.
