Sulphur Springs shooting not random, police say; victim still critical

TAMPA — A shooting Wednesday night that sent a man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries was not a random act, according to Tampa police.

Cedrik D. Moultry, 21, was the intended target of the shooting, police said Thursday, but officials revealed few details about the circumstances of the crime. Moultry remained in St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired about 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Idell Street in Sulphur Springs. When they arrived, they found a car window had been shot out and shell casings on the ground, officials said. They later learned that Moultry had been taken to the hospital with wounds to his upper body.

The incident was still being investigated late Thursday afternoon. No arrests had been made.
