Suspect arrested in armed robbery at Tampa Blockbuster

TAMPA — Early Monday deputies arrested the man they say robbed a video store at gunpoint on Valentine's Day.

William Welland Jr., 27, is accused of robbing the Blockbuster at 7717 W Hillsborough Ave. before midnight Feb. 14. Deputies say he walked around browsing before showing the clerks a gun and demanding money and personal items.

He took their belongings, cash from the register and several movies, the Sheriff's Office said.

There was a warrant out for Welland's arrest by Feb. 22.

Welland turned himself in at about 12:15 a.m. Monday at the Hillsborough County Jail on Orient Road, said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter.

He was arrested on three counts of armed robbery and booked after 1 a.m., and he remains behind bars without bail.
