Suspect charged in St. Petersburg church burglary

ST. PETERSBURG — A suspect in a string of eight church burglaries was arrested Saturday morning after police received a tip that he had been seen near another St. Petersburg church.

St. Petersburg police arrested transient Robert Earl Warren, 42, and charged him with commercial burglary for a July 10 or 11 break-in at the Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church at 4000 Fifth Ave. S.

Police said they received two calls Saturday from people who had seen Warren's picture in the St. Petersburg Times after police said he was a suspect in one of the church burglaries. The callers told police Warren had been seen at or near the Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church at 900 16th Ave. S.

Police rushed to the vicinity and arrested Warren without incident at 11 a.m. Police said they are continuing their investigation and said additional charges are pending.
