Suspect sought in fatal East Tampa hit-and-run

TAMPA — Police were searching for the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash that left a man dead early Sunday morning in East Tampa.

Herbert M. James, 25, was turning south onto 40th Street at Deleuil Avenue around 3:09 a.m. when his car was struck by a vehicle driving south on 40th Street, according to police. James, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene, police said.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a 2015 Chevy Camaro rented out of Orlando, authorities said. Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
