Tampa 7-Eleven robbed at gunpoint

TAMPA — Police are looking for a man they say robbed a 7-Eleven store at gunpoint early Friday.

It happened at about 4:15 a.m. at 6845 N 22nd St., said Tampa police spokeswoman Laura McElroy.

A man walked into the store and asked the clerk for a pack of Newport 100 cigarettes, McElroy said. When the clerk turned around, the man pulled out a handgun wrapped in a green towel and demanded the clerk open the cash register.

The clerk complied, and the suspect ordered him to go to the back of the store. The suspect took an unknown amount of cash and ran away, McElroy said.

Police searched the area with helicopters and police dogs but were unable to find the suspect.

He is described as black, about 5-foot-10, 180 pounds with a medium build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans and white sneakers.
