Tampa couple accused of Medicaid fraud

TAMPA — A Tampa couple who operated an adult family care facility out of their home is facing up to five years in prison after the state attorney general accused them Wednesday of Medicaid fraud.

Edward Ashby, 69, and Catherine Ashby, 64, billed the Medicaid program for $13,000 in medical services that their business never provided, Attorney General Pam Bondi's office said in a statement. The couple was arrested Wednesday morning following an investigation by the attorney general's Medicaid fraud control unit.

Both face a single charge of organized scheme to defraud. In addition to prison time, they could face a $5,000 fine, if convicted.
