Tampa doctor faces 33 child porn charges

TAMPA — A 49-year-old Tampa doctor arrested Wednesday night faces 33 child porn charges after investigators found pornographic images of children on his computer's hard drive, according to Tampa police.

On Feb. 2, police received a tip that James Doughty Murphy, 6601 S West Shore Blvd., Apt. 2102, had child pornography. The tip led to a search warrant.

During the search, officers took numerous electronic devices from his home for forensic review. Authorities found 33 child porn images on his iMac, which was in his bedroom.

He was arrested at his home about 6:30 p.m. and released on bail Thursday morning.

Murphy's privileges as an anesthesiologist at Bayfront Medical Center began in October 2005, said spokeswoman Emily Nipps,

He is not a contract employee, meaning he had privileges to practice but is not on the payroll. On Thursday, Bayfront removed those privileges.
